16 inch cantilever frame with bent springers
Ministry of bicycles
Sold this frame to a friend in the ministry of bicycles years ago and he built it up. Due to the 16inch frame running on bent springers the bike cantilevers when you ride, giving you the feel of riding a swing bike, its small with 16 x 2.125 tyres in coaster brake rims, banana seat and mini apes.
A great little ride for the crazy bike fan, turns a few heads too!
RAD Oldschool BMX annual Meet 2013

Orbit Softride by Berrecloth
My name is Darren Berrecloth
and I ran Berrecloth Cycles
based in Woodford Green in the
late 80s / 90s and am uniquely
qualified to give you the
background of this bike which I
hope you will find interesting.
To fully appreciate the history of
this one off bike, you need to
know a little about Orbit, the
frame builders, Berrecloth
Cycles, the bike builder as well as
about the changes going on
within cycling and triathlon at
By the late 1991 Berrecloth Cycles had
established themselves as the first, and
at that time, only 100% triathlon
retailer in the UK.
Although we were still selling some off
the peg bikes, the majority were made
to measure with hand built wheels and
either Shimano or (preferably) Campag
group sets on frames from Orbit, Dave
LLoyd, Look carbon and Merlin
Allsop were promoting their Softride
suspension system in the UK but mainly
targeting the MTB market.
I was interested in the concept as I
reckoned it would be ideal for
triathletes and managed to get a beam
off them to try.
They would normally also supply the
top tube but they only had MTB tubes
I then went to see Frank and Rossie at
Orbit to discuss the concept and show
them the beam.
This would not be an easy thing to set
up but they agreed to build a demo
bike so we could assess the beams
performance and see whether this was
worthwhile investing in.
The result was the frame you see on
Because we didnít have the correct top
tube, orbit put an extra tube between
the down tube and top tube to give
extra support to the beam.
You will also notice that the top tube
does not curve as much as the full
production frames which followed.

RAD bmx Macmillan charity ride
Out on a run with the RAD bmx forum annual charity ride through London Macmillan, a great day out and for a good cause too!
Came across this chap and his interesting use of a bicycle, a busker on the streets of London, rides up and removes front wheel, turns bike into drum kit stand using a couple of drums and cymbals from his back pack and a stool, sits down and starts playing some amazing techno-drum and bass style rhythms, had me mesmerised!
